Busbars are incredible pieces of technology that make complicated power distribution much easier, less expensive and more flexible. Today’s sensitive electronic environments require specialized bonding and grounding techniques, but what exactly is a busbar? Busbars distribute electricity with greater ease and flexibility than some other more permanent forms of installation and distribution. Understanding high frequency, equipotential ground planes and signal reference subsystems are imperative when protecting advanced electronic systems, and grounding busbars play a critical role.

When most people think of lightning protection, they often imagine metal rods on top of houses and buildings. However, lightning protection can take several forms and depending on your location and type of structure, can seamlessly blend into the aesthetics of the building.

Lightning is a dangerous natural force. Annually in the United States, cloud-to-ground lightning occurs 20 to 25 million times and over 300 people are struck by lightning. During the past 30 years, about 50 people, on average, have been killed by lightning strikes every year, and many more suffer permanent disabilities. Precautions should be taken to prevent worker exposure to lightning. Employers should recognize lightning as an occupational hazard.
