Top 4 Lightning Products

Winter weather in the U.S. has finally come to an end. We're done with snow storms, but now we have thunderstorms to worry about. The United States has already begun to see more lightning. Lightning frequency will continue to increase until late summer, which is the peak of lightning related incidents. Protect yourself and others with these 4 essential lightning protection products to install before peak lightning season.

#4 - Conductors

Conductors are an integral component of a lightning protection system. Their job is to provide a low impedance path from the air terminal to the grounding system, carrying the lightning discharge safely to the ground. Harger offers a wide array of conductor types, including Aluminum, Tin Plated Copper, and Copper.

#3 - Ground Electrodes

Ground electrodes are another component of a lightning protection system. These conductive objects are used to form a direct connection with the ground. While conductors are typically used to carry an electrical charge, not all of them directly connect with the ground, so the ground electrode is there to allow the electric charge to be dispersed into the ground.

#2 - Lightning Warning System

Up next, we have the Strike Guard Lightning Warning System. Strike Guard monitors cloud and cloud-to-ground lightning within a 20-mile range, communicating the data to a Lightning Data Receiver, which displays system status, caution and alarm in real time. Strike Guard enables automated activation of warning systems for human safety, and initiation of data backup and generator start-up, while also shutting down and/or isolating electrical systems for the duration of the electrical storm.

#1 - Air Terminals

Finally, we have the extensive line of air terminals from Harger. Coming in multiple varieties, including: tin plated copper, copper-bonded, stainless steel, nickel plated copper, copper clad, aluminum, fiberglass masts, and copper. At the forefront of lightning protection design, Harger has long been one of the leading providers of structural lightning protection. As testament to the quality of Harger’s Air terminal systems, some of the tallest structures in the U.S. like the Willis Tower and John Hancock building in Chicago are protected with Harger systems.
